Nasal Release Therapy: Realigning the Breath, Body, and Brain

Nasal Release Therapy: Realigning the Breath, Body, and Brain

There’s a hidden rhythm beneath the surface of how we breathe, sleep, and feel. It lives in the subtle pulses of our cranial bones, the delicate dance of the nervous system, and the flow of energy through our sinuses.

When that rhythm is disrupted — by injury, tension, or the cumulative effects of stress — we often experience symptoms like foggy thinking, shallow breathing, jaw tightness, headaches, or simply a sense of feeling “off.”

At Jyzen Body, our cutting-edge Body Optimization department, we see these symptoms not as isolated problems, but as signals. And often, the key to restoring balance lies in one of the body’s most overlooked areas: the nasal passages.

This is where Nasal Release Techniques (also known as Neurocranial Release) come in. This gentle yet powerful procedure works deep within the cranial system to unlock restrictions, restore alignment, and bring the breath, body, and brain back into harmony.

What Is Nasal Release Technique?

When the cranial bones shift out of alignment — due to trauma, stress, or tension — the body often compensates in ways that create deeper imbalances. This can restrict the flow of cerebrospinal fluid, disrupt breathing patterns, and push the nervous system into a chronic fight-or-flight state.

Nasal Release Technique (NRT) is a specialized, hands-on approach designed to restore natural mobility to the cranial bones. Using a small, soft balloon inserted into the nasal passages, the technique gently mobilizes structures from within — especially the sphenoid bone, which plays a key role in regulating the nervous system.

Though unconventional, the results of NRT are remarkable. Developed through decades of craniosacral research, it offers a non-invasive way to unwind deeply held patterns of restriction caused by trauma, chronic tension, or emotional stress stored in the head, face, and jaw.

At its core, Nasal Release is about restoring flow — of breath, cerebrospinal fluid, energy, and alignment — to help the brain and body return to a natural state of ease.

Benefits of Nasal Release

Nasal Release Techniques promote greater fluidity and alignment throughout the cranial and nervous systems. Clients often report a wide range of benefits, including:

  • Immediate relief from sinus pressure and facial tension

  • Improved nasal airflow and deeper breathing, often felt during the session

  • Reduced frequency and intensity of headaches or migraines

  • Calming of the nervous system, leading to better sleep and reduced reactivity

  • Enhanced mental clarity and focus

  • Less tension in the jaw, neck, and shoulders

  • A feeling of being more grounded and “in your body”

Because NRT works at both structural and neurological levels, its effects often extend far beyond the nasal passages. Many clients describe feeling lighter, more open, and mentally clearer than they have in years.

What Can Nasal Release Help With?

Thanks to its direct influence on the cranial bones, nasal passages, and central nervous system, Nasal Release Technique can support a wide range of conditions, including:

  • Headaches and migraines caused by cranial misalignment or nerve compression

  • Chronic sinus congestion and pressure unresponsive to conventional treatments

  • TMJ dysfunction, jaw clenching, or tension

  • Post-concussion symptoms, such as brain fog, light sensitivity, and imbalance

  • Sleep issues, including snoring or mild apnea related to nasal airflow

  • Mental fog, fatigue, and lack of focus linked to subtle cranial restrictions

  • Nervous system dysregulation, including chronic anxiety or feeling “on edge”

While not a replacement for medical treatment, NRT can be a powerful complement — especially for those whose symptoms persist despite traditional approaches. At Jyzen, we use Nasal Release to not only ease discomfort but to support your body’s natural ability to regulate, heal, and thrive.

What to Expect During a Session

A Nasal Release session is brief, precise, and surprisingly subtle — yet its effects can be profound.

The treatment involves a small, soft balloon, similar to a finger cot. After lubrication, the balloon is gently inserted into a nasal passage and momentarily inflated. This creates gentle pressure on the internal structures of the nose, especially the sphenoid bone — a critical bone that influences the entire skull’s alignment.

Each inflation lasts just one or two seconds and may feel like a quick burst of pressure, followed by a release — often described as a “pop” or shift behind the eyes or forehead. The process is repeated in a series of targeted placements on both sides of the nose, taking about 15 minutes in total.

What makes NRT unique is its ability to reach internal structures most bodywork cannot, helping to unwind deep patterns that influence everything from sinus drainage to spinal alignment and cognitive function.

How Many Sessions Are Needed?

Your body’s response will guide the frequency of care.

Some clients feel significant relief after just one or two sessions, particularly for sinus congestion or breathing issues. Others — especially those recovering from concussions, chronic migraines, or long-term cranial restrictions — may benefit from a series of three to six sessions for deeper, lasting results.

Nasal Release can also be used proactively, much like regular bodywork or nervous system tune-ups. Periodic sessions can help maintain optimal cranial alignment, support nasal breathing, and keep your internal systems flowing.
